I realized somebody would have to pay me in order to motivate me to get in shape, so I decided that the closest thing to this would be to ride my bike to work.
One: No matter how many trains are running, I will arrive just after one has left and have to wait at least an hour for the next one.
Two is that it will not save me any money, as a roundtrip train ticket is $5.
Three: one should prepare ones body and equipment for this sort of thing first. My bike tires were low this morning making me miss the first train and my chain fell off twice during the ride. Now that I'm here my legs are burning and Im a sweaty mess, not the best look for the office!
Four: No matter how nice it looks, you will be rained upon.
So afterwork, I ride like the wind (a slow slightly overweight wind) and hit the train station about 10 minutes before the train gets there. Train pulls up and as I m going to get on, a conductor yells "No bikes on the train after 7!" So i go to chain it up and he yells "Close the doors" and the train leaves. I flip them off and swear but for some reason, they don't stop the train for me. I checked my watch, and it was 6:30, I was really mad, but had no outlet. So I wait till the next train, leaving my bike and then walking home from train station, getting home around 8:30. The next day, I found out the guy should have said "No bikes till after 7" so could have taken my bike on that later train. Nevertheless, plans have been scrapped made for a Green Commute 2.0.

ReplyDeleteI'm also curious as to what a slow, slightly overweight wind looks like....wait, no I'm not. I know exactly what it looks like.

Awww... don't give up yet! You just have to get into a rhythm. I rode a bike or walked to work for about a year. It was the best thing I ever did. When I stopped, I fattened back up like a Christmas goose. How do you normally get to work? Do you drive? How far is it? I would love to take a train, if nothing else to just relax on the commute instead of having to focus on the road. I would probably read more if I didn't have to be behind the wheel so much.
